Ordinary shares. The commonest holding on this board, and the fallback classification when nothing more specific is known.
Asset classes
Every instrument type this board classifies a call against.
Exchange-traded funds — except where the fund's own name states a debt or hybrid mandate, such as a gold or bond ETF, which file under that mandate instead. See Debt, below.
Mutual funds — again reclassified into Debt or Hybrid where the scheme's own name states that mandate.
Bonds, gilts and money-market holdings — including a fund or an ETF whose own name says it holds debt, such as a Bharat Bond ETF or a liquid fund. Those wrappers file here rather than under ETF or Mutual fund, because the wrapper is a form and debt is what it substantively holds.
Funds that mix asset classes by mandate — arbitrage, balanced advantage, multi-asset — reclassified out of ETF or Mutual fund the same way Debt is, by what the scheme's own name says it holds.
Cryptocurrency — identified from the exchange listing itself, rather than guessed from the symbol.
Futures and futures-tracking holdings — gold, silver, crude oil and the other contracts this board follows.
An index itself, rather than a share of any single company.
A currency pair, not a share of a company or a fund that holds one.
